Hope For Those Who Took “The Blasphemy Challenge”

A few years ago an atheist online group known as the “Rational Response Squad” started a project they call “The Blasphemy Challenge”, you can check out the website here at www.blasphemychallenge.com. The goal of the challenge is to get as many people as possible to create a video of themselves committing the unforgivable sin of blasphemy against the Holy Ghost as the bible records in Mathew 12:21 “Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.”

To take part in the challenge many people created videos in which they recorded themselves saying directly something to the effect of “I commit blasphemy against the holy spirit” or “holy ghost”. If you are one of the people who took part in this “Blasphemy Challenge” and have since regretted it there is hope, because simply making the statement that you commit blasphemy against the Holy Ghost is no more blasphemy than making a statement saying you are on fire while not actually being on fire.

To help you understand what I am saying better let me take a moment and instruct you on what the true, literal meaning of blasphemy is in the bible. We will look at three verses to show this.

Here is the first verse, “And, behold, they brought to him a man sick of the palsy, lying on a bed: and Jesus seeing their faith said unto the sick of the palsy; Son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee. And, behold, certain of the scribes said within themselves, this man blasphemeth.” Matthew 9:2, 3 KJV

Here is the second verse, “Son, your sins are forgiven you.'... 'Why does this Man speak blasphemies like this? Who can forgive sins but God alone?” Mark 2:5-7

Notice in both these verses when Jesus forgave the sins of the people involved he was accused of blasphemy because in order to forgive sin you have to be GOD who is the only one who can forgive sin.

Finally, here we have the third verse to make this all clear, “The Jews answered him, saying, for a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.” John 10:33

In this final verse we clearly see that the true biblical definition of blasphemy is to put yourself in the place of the GOD of the Holy Bible, in other words you have to claim you are GOD, the GOD who created the universe and life on earth. As an atheist this would be completely impossible since you would immediately become a theist, just instead of believing in the GOD of the Holy Bible you would have to accept yourself to be that GOD, not any GOD but the GOD recorded in the Holy Bible alone.

Simply saying “I blasphemy against the Holy Ghost” is no more true literal blasphemy than saying “look at me I am on fire” and not truly being ablaze. Unless you truly claim that you are the GOD of the Holy Bible it is just an untrue statement.

If you are someone who has taken this challenge and since regretted it, worry no more because you have not truly committed blasphemy. If you are an atheist who reads this and decides that you need to go back and redo your Blasphemy Challenge by proclaiming yourself to be the one true GOD recorded in the Holy Bible remember that in order to do so you will have to give up being an atheist as you cannot be an atheist and believe in any GOD even if you believe that GOD is you, also you will have to give up all your views on evolution as the bible records that GOD created all life through a literal 7 day creation period.

If you took the challenge and wish you hadn’t don’t worry, what you did meant nothing. Return to Jesus, return to church and get on with your life.

My biggest suggestion to anyone who has put their “faith” in the Rational Response Squad would be to reconsider what they are truly teaching. If they can make such an obvious mistake concerning bible doctrine and set up to sell it as a national challenge what does that really say for everything else they are teaching? How many mistakes are they making in their interpretations of the bible?

From my visits to their website I see A LOT of mistakes. It’s no use arguing with them because they don’t listen.

If you need more literal, down-to-earth common sense explanations of bible doctrine and to learn to interpret the bible in a true Christian way I fully recommend the website www.amazingfacts.org or feel free to visit us at www.call2christ.org.

Don’t put your faith in people who obvious don’t know what they are reading as shown fully by this “Blasphemy Challenge” mess.  If they can make such an obvious mistake I don’t see how they could be even a credible resource to other atheists?

            Peace and GOD BLESS,
